Indirect Wealth偏財

The side that moves around and catches chances.

What Indirect Wealth means

Indirect Wealth belongs to the element the Day Master holds in check, with the same polarity as the Day Master. In this tradition, whatever lies within your reach to take up and put to use is called Wealth, and the kind that leans one way is Indirect Wealth. It covers chances that come and go on a current rather than a fixed share. It also covers a broad field of action and a feel for dealing with many people at once. Rather than money itself, it is a frame for how widely you handle things.

The characters 偏財

  • 偏leaning one way (Korean reading: pyeon)
  • 財wealth, goods (Korean reading: jae)

Wealth that leans one way: a share that moves in and out unevenly rather than on a set schedule.

How Indirect Wealth is found

In the controlling cycle, the element the Day Master controls is Wealth. Wood overcomes Earth, Earth overcomes Water, Water overcomes Fire, Fire overcomes Metal, and Metal overcomes Wood. If a character of that element carries the same polarity, it is Indirect Wealth. A yang Fire Day Master takes yang Metal, and among branches it looks for those whose main hidden stem is that stem. Metal of yin polarity falls under Direct Wealth instead.

Characters that count as Indirect Wealth for each Day Master
Day MasterStemsBranches (by main hidden stem)
甲 (Jia)戊 (Wu)辰 (Chen), 戌 (Xu)
乙 (Yi)己 (Ji)丑 (Chou), 未 (Wei)
丙 (Bing)庚 (Geng)申 (Shen)
丁 (Ding)辛 (Xin)酉 (You)
戊 (Wu)壬 (Ren)亥 (Hai)
己 (Ji)癸 (Gui)子 (Zi)
庚 (Geng)甲 (Jia)寅 (Yin)
辛 (Xin)乙 (Yi)卯 (Mao)
壬 (Ren)丙 (Bing)巳 (Si)
癸 (Gui)丁 (Ding)午 (Wu)

Each branch is judged by its main hidden stem alone. The Day Master itself is the point of comparison, so it is not counted.

Reading Indirect Wealth in a chart

Seeing several Indirect Wealth characters, you might read a wide circle and an eye for openings in many places. Meeting lots of people and starting big undertakings feels rewarding, and a habit of wrapping up what was started turns that breadth into results. No Indirect Wealth suggests being more at home going deep on one thing. When a Luck Pillar brings it, the ten years are read as a time to widen your field.

An example of Indirect Wealth

For a 丙 (Bing) Day Master, Indirect Wealth shows up as 庚 (Geng) among the stems and 申 (Shen) among the branches. Fire overcomes Metal, and 丙 and 庚 are both yang. 申 follows its main hidden stem 庚 into the same slot.

Common misreadings of Indirect Wealth

  • A common idea

Indirect Wealth means big money is on the way.

    How we read it

It is not a gauge of how large anyone's assets are. This service reads it as a way of working with chances across a broad field and does not use it as grounds for money decisions.

  • A common idea

Indirect Wealth is unstable and so worse than Direct Wealth.

    How we read it

Indirect and direct are not a ranking; they only record whether the polarities match. The flexibility of Indirect Wealth helps in settings that shift a lot.
