Conceiving胎

A stage where a new pull first takes hold.

What Conceiving means

Conceiving is the eleventh stage, where the seed of a new strength settles into the flow that was cut. The name comes from a child who has just taken shape inside the mother, a moment when nothing shows yet but the next life has already begun. There are no visible results, but possibility is quietly budding here. So the stage is used when looking at a heart that holds new plans, an imagination that sketches an open road in many directions, and preparation carried out step by step under someone's care.

The characters 胎

  • 胎womb, to carry a child (Korean reading: tae)

Carrying a child: a new life that has just settled inside and cannot be seen yet.

How Conceiving is found

Conceiving is ten seats from Sprouting, following Severing, and the same rule applies: yang stems count forward, yin stems count backward. The seat faces Peak from across the ring, which gives a telling picture of new strength taking form directly opposite the place where strength is fullest. For instance, yang Fire conceives at the Rat across from its Peak at the Horse, and yin Metal at the Tiger across from its Peak at the Monkey.

Branches where each Day Master reaches the Conceiving stage
Day MasterDay Master polarityBranch
甲 (Jia)yang酉 (You)
乙 (Yi)yin申 (Shen)
丙 (Bing)yang子 (Zi)
丁 (Ding)yin亥 (Hai)
戊 (Wu)yang子 (Zi)
己 (Ji)yin亥 (Hai)
庚 (Geng)yang卯 (Mao)
辛 (Xin)yin寅 (Yin)
壬 (Ren)yang午 (Wu)
癸 (Gui)yin巳 (Si)

Stems of yang polarity move forward through the branches, and stems of yin polarity move backward. 戊 (Wu) and 己 (Ji) take the same seats as 丙 (Bing) and 丁 (Ding), because Earth follows Fire here.

Reading Conceiving in a chart

People describe a Conceiving seat as the home of a mind that pictures many possibilities. It suggests enjoying the planning and designing phase, and turning a plan into small actions is said to bring that strength to life. Several Conceiving seats can stretch the lead-up before anything starts, so setting a deadline helps. Without Conceiving, the strength lies in getting your hands moving before every detail of the plan is settled.

An example of Conceiving

A 丙 (Bing) Day Master meets Conceiving at 子 (Zi), across from its Peak branch 午 (Wu). The same 子 is the Peak of a 壬 (Ren) Day Master, so one stem's summit is where another stem's new strength takes form.

Common misreadings of Conceiving

  • A common idea

Conceiving means news of a baby is on the way.

    How we read it

The expectation comes from readings that take the stage as conception and link it to children. This service does not use Conceiving to guess at births or family events; it describes a new plan taking form in the mind.

  • A common idea

Conceiving is not yet born, so it has no strength at all.

    How we read it

In terms of size it is a small stage, but this service does not judge stages by strength alone. It puts more weight on the unseen possibility being carried.
